New Zealand Road Trip Day 7 - Drive & Ride the Train to Christchurch

We left the Glacier on a sunny morning...come on!!

We drove towards Greymouth stopping at a small town which was a Jade town. And I thought Jade was only found in china. We drove through areas with fantastic views. What's new right??

Reached Greymouth by 12:30 pm and our Tranz-Alpine train leaves at 2:00 pm. Enough time to grab a bite at a lovely restaurant and then check in our bags. The train looked beautiful with huge glass windows and roofs that opened the skies for us.

The train wasn't full ....our coach was only 35% occupied and this is busy season!! They have a cafeteria and a viewing cabin where there are no windows and toilets were super clean...just like it is meant to be!!

The recorded announcements gave us a good view of the history of the place and we crossed many places with populations as large as 1000. We have more families living in our community in Hiranandani than that!! Beautiful vistas, lots of rivers and waterfalls and tons of cattle.

Reached Christchurch and checked into our home . My sister-in-law Janani joins us from here and my nephew and his family Poornima Prasanna were there to visit us as well. Yeehaaw. The kids must have woken everyone in the neighbourhood.
