We picked up our rental car and today we drove through scenic Slovenia. We upgraded our car to a beautiful Audi Q3.
Today's itinerary was simple - drive to Lake Cerknica, Postojna Caves and then Predjama Castle!!
First stop Lake Cerknica - where one can sight many birds.
Then we drove to the highlight of the day - Postojna caves. Postojna Cave is a 24.34 km long karst cave system near Postojna, southwestern Slovenia. It is the second-longest cave system in the country as well as one of its top tourism sites. Postojna Cave was carved by the Pivka River over millions of years.
We took a train inside the cave and with a tour guide we explored the beautiful cave.
There are stalagmites, stalactites, and formations called curtains or draperies that look like folded curtains. We spent 1.5 hours in a small portion of this 24 km long cave.
Next stop was Predjama castle...stunning again as the castle was set on a rock face. The impregnable medieval marvel has been perched in the middle of a 123-metre-high cliff for more than 800 years. Behind the largest cave castle in the world, there is a network of secret tunnels, from where the knight Erazem of Predjama would set out on his plundering expeditions. The Cave under Predjama Castle is the home of a colony of bats.
The ride through the countryside was very pretty and a fabulous day in the Slovenian countryside came to an end. A beautiful day in Slovenia comes to an end.
Good that you managed a way out of heatwaves, experienced one of the hottest summers in Chennai
